Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana, the government provides free gas cylinders to poor rural women. Gas cylinders will no longer be available for free under the scheme after September. In fact, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana, which was implemented for three years in 2016, was valid till April 2020.

What is the purpose of the scheme?

Under this scheme, the government provides cylinder connection to the families living below the poverty line. Its purpose was to protect women in rural areas from harm caused by the use of wood and dung. Under the Ujjawala scheme, 74 million women who buy gas cylinders get them for free.

• Women of BPL family can take gas connection in their name under this scheme.

• The age of the applicant woman should be more than 18 years.

• The woman applying should be a rural resident holding a BPL card.

• The woman applicant should have a savings account in any nationalized bank across the country to receive the subsidy amount.

• A family that already has an LPG connection will not benefit from this scheme.

• Registering for this scheme is easy.

• Any woman from BPL family can apply for gas connection.

• Detailed information can be obtained by visiting the official website attached to the scheme pmujjwalayojana.com.
• For application, name, address, Jan Dhan bank account number, Aadhaar number have to be given along with the form.

• In the form, you also have to say that you will take a 14.2KG cylinder or 5KG.

• You can also choose the option of EMI, in which case the amount of EMI is adjusted to the subsidy received on the cylinder.
