According to officials, torrential rains are falling in at least 18 districts of Assam. Thus about 75,000 people in 18 districts have been affected by the floods. The water level of Brahmaputra and its tributaries is rising, while Manas river is flowing above the danger mark in some places.

The southwest monsoon is expected to move towards the Gangetic plains in West Bengal and all the northern districts of the state by Friday, the meteorological department said on Thursday.
