The southwest monsoon is expected to move towards the Gangetic plains in West Bengal and all the northern districts of the state by Friday, the meteorological department said on Thursday. This will reduce day and night temperature and humidity in the entire sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal, including this region. Due to south-westerly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar sub-Himalayan districts in the next five days. Now the weather department has issued an orange alert until Saturday. Today, the minimum temperature in most districts of the state can be 16 degrees and the maximum temperature 21 degrees.
