A huge fire broke out in the covid ward of Patel Welfare Hospital on Bypass Road in Bharuch late on Friday night. The fire spread to several parts of the hospital, including the ICU, creating chaos. Sixteen people, including 12 patients and two staff members, were reported killed in the incident. The death toll is expected to rise as the rescue operation draws to a close.

The Welfare Hospital on Bharuch Jambusar Bypass Road was declared a designated Kovid Hospital. On the other hand, rescue operations were hampered by power outages following the fire.

CM announces Rs 4 lakh assistance to families of deceased
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic fire at Kovid Hospital in Bharuch and announced assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased. He also directed two senior IAS officers of the state, Additional Chief Secretary for Labor and Employment Vipul Mitra and Commissioner Municipalities Administration Rajkumar Beniwal to reach Bharuch immediately and investigate the incident.
