Forecast / Meteorological Department issues Orange Alert, Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast at this place



The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an orange alert for Mumbai and forecast torrential rains in Mumbai and nearby coastal areas for the next two days. Which means there is a possibility of heavy rain here. According to the IMD, Mumbai may receive more than normal rainfall this time.

Mumbai Meteorological Department chief Shubhangi Bhat said heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Ratnagiri district on Friday. So heavy rain is also expected in Raigad on Saturday. Notably, Nisarg hurricane in Ratnagiri district last month caused great devastation.

He further said that heavy to very heavy rains are also forecast in some parts of Mumbai. According to the Meteorological Department, between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.

Heavy rains forecast in Mumbai

It may be mentioned that heavy rains are expected in Mumbai from today. The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in Thane, Palgadh and other areas. Goa has been alerted to the possibility of heavy rains and fishermen have been instructed not to plow the sea for the next five days.

Color coded alerts are issued as forecast by the weather department. Red alert means more rain (204 millimeters). Orange Alert means that the Authority should be prepared for any serious situation. This alert also means that heavy rain is likely to occur. Rainfall ranging from 15.6mm to 64.4mm is considered moderate, according to the weather department. Rainfall from 65.5mm to 115.5mm is categorized as heavy and rainfall from 115.6mm to 204.4mm as heavy.
