Unakoti

 Unakoti: 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 mysterious idols have been made in the dense forest in Tripura, the mystery of who made these idols is intact.

 Unakoti is the name given to this place because of these mysterious statues


 At this place Lord Shiva cursed the gods and goddesses to become stone idols

 There have been many in India which no one has been able to solve till date.  One such place is about 145 km from Aga sertala, the capital of Tripura, which is known as Unakoti.  It is said that there are a total of 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 stone idols here, no one has been able to solve its mysteries till date.  For example, who made these statues, when did they make them and why?  However, there are many stories behind it.


 Meaning of Unakoti: -

 It is because of these mysterious statues that the place gets its name Unakoti, which means one less than a crore.  This place is considered to be one of the biggest secrets of India.  For many years no information was available about this place.  However, very few people still know about this place.

 Why Unakoti is a mysterious place: -

 Unakoti is said to be a mysterious place because it is a mountainous area surrounded by dense forests.  How did millions of statues come to be in the middle of the jungle now, as these works take many years and before that no one even lived around the area.  This has long been a topic of discussion and research.


 Myths related to Unakoti: -

 There are many myths about the idols of Hindu gods and goddesses carved on stones and carved out of stone.

 The story of Lord Shiva and one crore gods and goddesses:

 It is believed that once a crore gods and goddesses, including Lord Shiva, were going somewhere.  As night fell, the gods and goddesses told Shivaji to stay in Unakoti and rest.


 Shivaji agreed, but at the same time he also said that everyone would have to leave this place before sunrise.  But only Lord Shiva could wake up at sunrise, all the other gods and goddesses were asleep.  Seeing this, Lord Shiva became angry and cursed and turned everyone into stone.  Because of this there are 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 idols, which is one less than one crore.

 The story of the sculptor and Lord Shiva: -

 There is another story about the construction of these statues.  It is said that there was a sculptor named Kalu who wanted to go to Mount Kailash with Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, but it was not possible.  However, due to the stubbornness of the sculptor, Lord Shivaji told him that if he could make one crore idols of gods and goddesses in one night, he would take the sculptor with him to Kailash.

 Hearing this, the sculptor stuck to his work and quickly started making sculptures one by one.  He made idols all night, but when he counted in the morning he found that one idol was missing.  Because of this, Lord Shiva did not take the sculptor with him.  This is why the place is called Unakoti.


 How to reach:

 Unakoti is located about 125 km from Agartala, the capital city of Tripura.  Bus service is available from major cities of Tripura.  The nearest airport is Agartala / Kamalpur Airport.  The nearest railway station is Kumarghat railway station.
