The Election Commission has announced by-elections for 56 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Nagaland and Manipur. Voting for these seats will take place on November 3 and counting will take place on November 10. However, the Election Commission has decided that by-elections will not be held for 7 seats in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
A total of 8 assembly seats in the state
By-elections to Abadsa Assembly, Limbdi Assembly, Karjan Assembly, Dang Assembly, Kaprada, Morbi, Gadda, Dhari Assembly have been declared. A total of 8 assembly seats are vacant in the state in which the voting process will take place on November 3 and the result will be declared on November 10.
Election Commission decides by-polls for 7 seats in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal
The Election Commission will hold a review meeting on Tuesday for the by-elections to vacate 56 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in various states of the country. After this the dates of by-elections will be announced. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, while announcing the dates of Bihar elections, said the by-polls would be announced on September 29. It is believed that by-elections across the country could be held on the same day.
In Madhya Pradesh, 28 seats are vacant
Out of total 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, 28 seats are vacant. In which two seats are vacant due to death of MLAs, while MLAs of 25 seats have resigned. In March, 22 supporters of Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the assembly after joining the BJP and joined the BJP, which toppled Kamal Nath's government. Apart from this, 4 more Congress MLAs have recently left the party and joined the BJP. As a result, 28 seats are vacant in the state, where by-elections are to be held.
By-elections on 8 seats in Uttar Pradesh
By-polls are to be held in 8 Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituencies, including Ghatampur in Kanpur, Malhani in Jainpur, Swar in Rampur, Sadar in Bulandshahr, Deoria Sadar in Dendaria, Bangaram in Unnao and Nauga Sadat in Amroha. Out of which BJP had six seats and SP won the remaining two seats. This by-election is considered to be the semi-final of the state assembly elections to be held in 2022. If the BJP is preparing for a clean sweep, the opposition wants to win the by-elections and create the atmosphere for the next assembly.

Eight seats in Gujarat and two seats in Jharkhand
Before the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat, 8 Congress MLAs resigned from the party and joined the BJP. As a result, seats in Abadsa, Morbi, Dhari, Limbdi, Gadha, Kaprada, Karjan and Dang are vacant. At the same time, two assembly seats in Jharkhand, including Dumka and Bermo assembly seats, are also vacant. The Hemant Soren-led government is being touted as a litmus test in the by-elections to these two state seats.
One seat each for Haryana-Chhattisgarh
Baroda assembly seat is vacant in Sonipat district of Haryana. The seat is vacant due to the death of Congress MLA Shri Krishna Hooda. Similarly, the Marwahi seat in Chhattisgarh is also vacant due to the demise of Janata Congress MLA and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi. Hearings from political parties on both these seats are hectic.
Vacant seats in other states
Four assembly seats are vacant in West Bengal. In Odisha, two assembly seats are vacant. Eleven assembly seats in Manipur have long been vacant, where Congress MLAs left the party and joined the BJP. Apart from this, one seat of Puducherry is also vacant. However, two seats are also vacant in Karnataka, but due to the case in the court, by-elections have not yet been held.
A Lok Sabha seat in Bihar
Lok Sabha by-elections are also to be held in Bihar's Valmiki Nagar parliamentary constituency. The seat fell vacant following the untimely death of Vaidyanath Prasad Mahato, who won from JDU in 2019. In such a scenario, if the JDU is trying to maintain its victory in this seat, then this seat can go to the account of the Congress through the grand coalition. In such a scenario, the Congress is all set to win this seat.

In the situation Congress is preparing to win this seat
The non-voting constituencies include Rangpara in Assam, Sibsagar constituency, Kutnad and Chavra constituencies in Kerala, Tiruvatiyur in Tamil Nadu, Gudiyattam (SC) and Falakat (SC) in Tamil Nadu. The commission said it had received such inputs from the states, which said they were facing difficulties in holding elections.
The Chief Secretary / Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal sent inputs to the Election Commission. In Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Bengal, the term of the Legislative Assembly is till 31.05.2021, 24.05.2021 and 30.05.2021 respectively.
The Election Commission said that based on the input of these states, it has been decided not to hold elections in 7 seats. After talking to these states later, the Election Commission will decide on the election.
